New Milford residents are plagued by two questions:
"Where is sharpening near New Milford, because I'm tired of using this dull blade"
Are You Dull Minded?
The marketing for these rods must be pretty convincing, because we've noticed A LOT of people don't know these rods don't actually sharpen the edge.
Tell Me More
Below is a perfectly sharpened edge, out of the box.

As you use the knife daily, the very tip of the edge warps, bends, or folds. It will lose performance, but doesn't mean it's "dull" yet.

To make it workable again, we can use a honing rod. The edge isn't any sharper, it's just pointing in the right direction again.

However, honing does NOT create a new edge. Therefore even with regular honing, the edge will dull out, round off, and officially need to be sharpened.

To truly sharpen a knife, the minimal ammount of material needed must be removed to form a new edge.

These sharpeners are GREAT… for people who want to feel like they're getting results, without actually getting any. There's actually four major problems that these sharpeners create.
Tell Me More
A great edge is supposed to have a uniform, consistent angle and scratch pattern for maximum strength and performance.

Pull-through's create a burr without removing it. The burr is sharp, but it's thin and flimsy. That's why you have to re-sharpen after a few uses.

The top-down view pictured below shows you the edge after a pull through. Thick reflections of light like that indicate flat, dull, or rolled over edges.

To make it workable again, we can use a honing rod. The edge isn't any sharper, it's just pointing in the right direction again.

A pull-through's scratch pattern is sloppy and inconsistent, leading to excessive sharpening and a shorter lifespan of your knife.

Most people don't strop their blade after using a pull-through, which mean these metal shards only have one place to go; your food.
This is a mentality problem; you're putting too much focus on the tool itself, instead of the desired outcome of the tool. There's actually only one major difference between an expensive blade and a cheap blade…
Tell Me More
Every time you pick up a knife, it's because you had some goal in mind: To cut the tomato, to open a box, to cut the tag, etc.
To reach that outcome you only need one thing: A Sharp Edge.
A sharp cheap knife, a sharp expensive knife, a sharp spoon, a sharp ANYTHING is capable of completing that goal.
Inversely, a dull cheap knife, dull expensive knife, spoon, ANYTHING will NOT cut through.
The biggest relevant difference between an expensive and cheap blade is how long that sharp edge will last.
It is equally important for you to keep your cheap knife sharp. Sharpening is not a luxury service reserved for high end knives.
Luckily, I sell "pre-fessionally" sharpened knives, ready-to-go!
We argue that sharpening is health-care. It's cheaper than insurance, faster than hospital waiting rooms, and more satisfying than seeing a shrink. Get a sharpening once, and you'll never go back to the dull life.
